  I have had some great and some not so great experiences with this shelter. There are some things I think need to be kept in mind if/when you visit here. The staff has a really tough job. As government employees they have guidelines and procedures they must follow. You and they may not agree with some of the rules, but there is not likely to be much wiggle room for anyone. I have no doubt that the staff is subjected to at least verbal abuse on a daily basis. Try to keep that in mind. This is a kill shelter. I believe the shelter has been and is continuing to reduce the number of animals that are euthenized, but they do still kill some animals. I know that the majority, if not all, of the people who work there have to develop coping mechanisms in order to continue to do their jobs. Again, try to put yourself in their shoes. I have adopted from the shelter twice. Both times I got a wonderful dog, fully vetted and neutered with the exception of a rabies vaccine, for far less money than I would have paid otherwise. Are there imperfections in the system and the shelter? Yes. However, there are a lot of animals who would have been far worse off if the shelter weren't there. For that I am grateful and thankful.

  Adopted a puppy there. They were friendly and helpful, but the dog turned out to have Giardia! That is an intestinal parasite that can be contagious to humans. That was bad enough, but then they refused to do any follow up whatsoever, instead they sent me to my own vet to pay the medical bills. They directed me to call a 30 day "Pet First Pet Insurance" plan included for my $250, which turned out to be absolute garbage.... didn't cover anything whatsoever. When I called the number all they did is try to get more money.
